Beyond the Magic Mirror: Imagination as a Social Mirror

EFTR – European Fairy Tale Route for the Council of Europe (a European network dedicated to the study and promotion of myths, fairy tales, and narrative cultures, with research, training, and outreach projects) announces the 4th Annual Conference “Beyond the Magic Mirror: Imagination, Politics, and Media,” scheduled for October 16–17 (online, CEST). The aim is to promote imagination—from fairy tales to media languages—as a social mirror capable of illuminating the desires, fears, and possibilities of our times.

The program includes plenary sessions and parallel sessions with international speakers on: narratives and popular knowledge; media representations; education and cultural practices; memory, territories, and participation; and cultural policies. The conference builds on EFTR’s activities and strengthens the dialogue between research, schools, cultural institutions, and communities.

Società Svizzera delle Fiabe

The Italian-speaking Switzerland Section of the Swiss Fairy Tale Society, an active member of the European Fairy Tale Route, is dedicating its 2025 programme to the rich tradition of Romanian fairy tales. Three evening events, from May to December, will guide us through extraordinary characters such as Făt-Frumos, Ileana Simziana, and Prâslea, alongside magical creatures like Zmeul, the Iele, and the Baba. Led by the voices of Pia Todorovic Redaelli, Veronica Trevisan, and the Intrecciafole Group, we will explore the symbols, ambivalences, and stories handed down by the Romani people and the broader Romanian tradition.
